Advanced Senior Mother Beverly J. White

April 18, 1933 — June 13, 2018

Advanced Senior Mother Beverly Joyce White of Coshocton Ohio passed away at Signature Healthcare on June 13, 2018 at the age of 85.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Coates and Myrtle (Robinson) Coates of Camp Dennison, Ohio, two brothers Marvin Coates and John Coates, one sister Mary Louise Hunter, her daughter Sister Beverly Jo White and husbands Edward L. Penn and Joseph E. White.  From her union with Joseph E. White they loved and raised 6 children: Keith, Michael, Beverly Jo, Kathy (Kathryn), Gilbert and Joseph.  In 1962, Joseph E. White, through his employment with the federal government, was preparing to transfer to a job in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Mother Beverly (then called Elderess Joyce) would tell the story of her informing Father W. Israel J.I.S., “Father, Joe is moving to Minnesota”.  She would later laugh and tell us that Father let her know, “You are going with him.”  She said Father reassured her that there would be a church there.

Father sent Supreme Mother Hargrove and saint from Chicago, Illinois and Pontiac, Michigan to missionary.  The Minneapolis, Minnesota Church was opened in June of 1970.  Supreme Mother Hargrove (Overseer), Mother Beverly Joyce White (Pastor) and other saints walked the church neighborhood handing out flyers and inviting neighbors to attend services.  Mother White pastored the church in Minneapolis, and later the church in St. Paul, Minnesota.  Mother White worked hard for the church and for her family.  She opened her heart and home to assist all the families that Father Israel J.I.S. sent, as well as to neighbors who were experiencing personal issues.  She also spent many hours working at White’s Superette, the store that she and Senior Deacon White owned.  Her work history also included her working as a department manager in retail, and an STNA (nursing assistant) until she retired at age 71.

Mother loved nature.  She loved working in the yard digging, planting, and caring for her plants.  She loved watching birds and feeding them.  Mother enjoyed baking and preparing foods for others.  In later years, she became known for her delicious Carmel cake.  She would say, “I’m just following a recipe”.   But the recipe did not include the love that she put in it, that came from her.

Mother also enjoyed sharing her photo albums that contained pictures of her family, friends and the saints.   Many of her pictures of the saints were from her early days in the church.  Whether you visited her home, or saw her albums when she brought them to the Supreme Mother Hargrove Building, Mother Beverly was happy to share her pictures.

Mother was just as loving and diligent in her preaching.  She was plain-spoken and would sometimes share experiences that had contributed to her own learning and growth in the church.  She believed that the House of Jacob was right and she loved God’s people.  On Pentecostal Day Observance, June 10, 2018, she was not well enough to attend, but she wanted to know which of the children received of the Holy Ghost, and she wanted to know about the welfare of the Saints.  Not being well enough to attend church services was one of her biggest heartaches.

Mother leaves behind to cherish her memory her five children, Brother Keith White, Michael White (Laura), Elderess Kathryn Pollard (Presiding Elder Ronald Pollard), Gilbert White (Amy) and Joseph White (Felicia), and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and her huge church family.  Her former husband, Deacon Henry Hank Herd, remains supportive to the family and “Grandpa” to the grandchildren.

The family is thankful for all acts of kindness during this difficult time.
