Clarellen Gress

November 13, 1933 — May 13, 2014

The family of Clarellen Hinds Gress, age 80,  is grateful to know that their Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Sister, Aunt, and friend has rejoined her parents and other loved ones in Heaven.  Clarellen passed on to Heaven on May 13, 2014, with her family by her bedside unable to recover after a courageous battle with cancer.
Clarellen was a long time resident of West Lafayette, Ohio.  She was born
in Coshocton County.  She attended elementary school at Bakersville, Ohio and graduated from West Lafayette High School in the class of 1951 with Salutatorian honors.

Clarellen’s main focus and most important job in life was being a Mom and Grandma to her children Darlene Gress of Columbus Ohio, Dan (Chris) Gress of Macedonia, Ohio; their children Joshua (Kara) Gress and Sarah (Greg) Pituch of Twinsburg, Ohio; Dwain (Robin) Gress of Columbus and their children Paul and Jessica Gress; and her great-grandchildren Katelyn and Jenna Lee Gress and her newest pride and joy great-granddaughter Leah Pituch.

Clarellen’s secondary job was as a cook in the Ridgewood School District for 30+ years.   She influenced many students during her time as cook by just giving them “the look” when mischief was occurring in the lunch line.

Clarellen is also leaving behind her sister Betty (Harold) Huff of Newcomerstown, Ohio and many loving nieces and nephews.

Clarellen was met in Heaven by her parents, the late William and Clara (Stein) Hinds, brother Floyd Hinds, sisters Wilma Clemens, Dorothy Simpson, and Rosemary Robinson and granddaughter Hope Marie Gress.   Also passed on is the father of her children, Elmer Gress.

Clarellen requested no calling hours or funeral.  Graveside services will be held on Saturday May 17, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Fairfield Cemetery in West Lafayette.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors on the 7th and 9th floors at Grant Hospital and special thanks to the nurses and aides at First Community Nursing home of Columbus for making her last days as peaceful and comfortable as possible. Special Thanks to her long time neighbors Jim and Martha Conrad and Donna and Ross Bates.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis Society, the Ridgewood Music Boosters, or any charity of the donor’s choice.
