Clark Smith

April 16, 1924 — September 10, 2015

Samuel “Clark” Smith, age 91, of Coshocton, Ohio, passed away on Thursday September 10, 2015, at 6:50 PM with his loving wife Carole, daughter Tracy and three year care giver Lucinda Stutzman at his side.  Clark was born in Canal Winchester, Ohio, on April 16, 1924, to the late Herman and Florence (Bachman) Smith.

He graduated from Pickerington High School in 1942.  After graduation, Clark served in the US Navy.  He served on the USS ATR-23 off the west coast of the Pacific during the latter part of WWII.  After attending Sub School he served on the sub USS Hake until his honorable discharge on February 23, 1946.  Upon his honorable discharge, his rank was Motor Mechanic’s Mate, 2nd Class.

Clark was employed by Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric Company for 36 years, where he started at the Walnut Street Station and retired from the Conesville Power Plant as a Shift Operating Engineer on April 30, 1984.  As part of his employment at C&SOE he obtained a State of Ohio Boiler Operator Stationary Steam Engineer License.

He was a 4-H Advisor for many years and a past member of the Masons, Toastmasters International, Keene Happy Neighbors and Keene Hill Grange (7th Degree).

Clark was Lutheran by faith attending Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Coshocton (where he was a long time council member and past council president) and Zion Lutheran Church in Adamsville, Ohio.

He volunteered for many years as an EMT for Coshocton County EMS.  While an EMT, he held different officer positions including 1 term as Squad Chief of Keene.

Clark was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son Daniel Clark; daughter Susan “Sue” Carol Smith; brothers Elmer, Leroy and Wayne Smith; sister Miriam Lucille Riegel; and his first wife June (Cramer) Smith.

Clark is survived by his loving and caring wife Carole whom he married on November 29, 1992; sons Philip (Goldie) Smith of Ashland, KY, Andrew Smith of Coshocton, Dale Smith of Delaware, OH; daughters Sadie Smith of Frazeysburg and Tracy Kelton of Coshocton; son in law Marion F. Smith, Jr. of Savannah, GA; sister-in-law Mary Jane Smith of Lancaster; grandchildren Trey (Sabrina) Smith, Arwen Smith, April, James and Dakota Smith, Ian and Morgaan Kelton; step-granddaughter Gayle Fry; great grandchild Athena Smith; many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at The Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main St., Coshocton on Monday September 14, 2015, from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM where funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM with Pastor Mary Molnar officiating.  Interment will follow in Coshocton County Memory Gardens, where Coshocton County Veteran’s Council will be performing military honors.  Memorial contributions may be directed to Emmanuel Lutheran Church; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
