C. Melvin “Mel” Cantrell, 74, of Coshocton passed away on Sunday July 2, 2017 at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville. Mel was born in Kentucky on February 21, 1943 to the late Charles R. Cantrell Sr. and Martha A. (Coffee) Cantrell.
He graduated from Union High School in 1961. In his early years he worked at Kroger’s in Coshocton, City Loan and Bank Ohio. Later in life, Mel enjoyed his time working for Three Rivers Infusion Care.
Mel loved spending time with his family, gardening, bowling and golfing. He was a member of Roscoe United Methodist Church, Lions Club, past board member of Coshocton County Board of MRDD, Salvation Army, Coshocton County Board of Health, Coshocton Foundation, Coshocton City School Board and JVS Board.
Mel is survived by his daughter Kara S. Cowden and granddaughter Kayla Cowden both of Coshocton; special long time companion Janet Mosier of Coshocton and her daughters Angie (Brent) Phillips and Christy (Sean) Nicely both of Coshocton and their children Samantha Phillips, Sean Tyler Nicely and Paige Nicely; former wife Margaret “Peggy” West of Coshocton; brother Arlie Wendell (Rita) Cantrell of NM; sister Geri Latham of Coshocton; special nephew Rick (Judy) Cantrell of Mt. Vernon and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers and sisters Ilene Hylton, Ruie Mae Cantrell, Lurie Fay Cantrell, Nell Hill, Lee Pierce, Paul Cantrell, Charles Cantrell Jr., Jean Guthrie and Dot Wilson.
Friends may call at The Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main St., Coshocton on Thursday July 6, 2017 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 1:00 PM with Pastor Dale Sutton officiating. Interment will follow in South Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Roscoe United Methodist Church, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
