Donald Oneil Duerson

June 7, 1935 — June 18, 2023

Donald O’Neil Duerson Sr. passed away on Sunday June 18, 2023 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 7, 1935 in Cedarville, Ohio to the late Ethel (Walker) Wingo and Harry Duerson. He was a high school graduate and then went on to serve in the United State Army. He entered the workforce in the laboratory at General Electric where he worked until his retirement. On September 12, 1992, he married Abigail (King) Duerson, who survives. He was a member of the Supreme Council of the House of Jacob where he held the title of Presiding Elder. He enjoyed taking care of the grounds on the farm where he tended to the roses and hedges. He oversaw the young men summer work program.

Donald was a lifelong fisherman, fishing locally and traveling to catch fish. He enjoyed a good book and owned 1,000’s of books. He also enjoyed photography and won several ribbons for his work.

Along with his wife, Abigail, he is survived by his children, Isaiah Duerson of Newcomerstown, Levi Duerson of Hawaii, Abner Duerson of New Philadelphia, Mary (Miguel) Duerson of Newcomerstown, Bethlehem Duerson of New Philadelphia, Emmanuel (Sarah) Duerson of Minneapolis, John (Maria) Duerson of Croydon, PA., Phebe Duerson of Newcomerstown and Abraham (Tiffany) Duerson of Westchester, PA; step-children, Thomas (Rhonda) Smith of Newark, William (Melissa) Herd of Zanesville, Martha Herd of Columbus and Jessica Sparks of Louisville, KY; 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one sister, melody Hollins and several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents; sons, Donald O. “Don” Duerson Jr. and General W. Duerson and 12 siblings.

Visitation will be held at the Miller Funeral Home on Friday, June 30, 2023 from 5pm to 7pm as well as at the church, one hour prior to the funeral service. The funeral service will be held at 11am on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at The Supreme Council of the House of Jacob First Tabernacle and officiated by Honorary Senior Bishop James Matthias Pearson. Burial will follow at the Machpelah Burial Acres where the Coshocton County Veterans Council will be performing military honors.
