Douglas G. "Duke" Berger

Douglas G. "Duke" Berger, age 90, of Newcomerstown passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 15, 2024. He was born on December 28, 1933 in Akron, Ohio to the late Wilbur & Wilma Berger. On February 26, 1954 he married Jeannettie (Roy) Berger. They were married for 69 years when she passed away on February 10, 2023.

Doug served in the Army National Guard, he was an EMT with Tri-County Squad in the late 70's, early 80's in Newcomerstown, he was an Adams Township Trustee for many years and he was a farmer for 55 years. He was very dedicated to Ridgewood School, keeping football stats for 50 years, driving bus for 34 years & running the time clock and scoreboard for many years for basketball. He was also dedicated to helping the Bakersville Volunteer Fire Department with all the chicken BBQs for the past 50 plus years.

Doug is survived by his 4 children - Rex (Kim) Berger of Newcomerstown, Rick (Kim) Berger of Newcomerstown, Vicki (Mike) Farley of Newcomerstown and Randy (Tammy) Berger of Fresno; as well as 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, with another on the way.

He is preceded in death by his wife, brother, sister-in-law, brother-in-law and nephew.

Memorial services for Doug & Jeannettie Berger will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, from 3-7pm at the West Lafayette United Methodist Church, 120 West Union Street, West Lafayette, Ohio. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Ridgewood Athletic Department or the Bakersville Volunteer Fire Department.
