Dr. John Allen Moore, Ed.D., 91, of Gettysburg, PA., husband of Maria Moore (nee Mendoza), passed away at his home on Monday, November 25, 2024, attended by his family and pets.
Born in Dresden, OH on June 17, 1933, he was the son of the late Henry Miles Moore and Allene Davis (nee Howell). He is preceded in death by both of his parents and brother Charles "Chuck" Moore, of Coshocton, OH. He is survived by his former spouse Glenna Moore (nee Lee) of Newark OH, and the children of his two marriages; Saundra Moore of Newark, OH; Sharon Wilburn (nee Moore) of Wilmington, OH; Sharlene Burford (nee Moore) of Newark, OH; Brian Moore of Marlboro, New Jersey; Terri Moore-Porter (nee Moore) of Greencastle, PA; and Miles Moore of York, PA. He was also a beloved Grandfather and Great-Grandfather of many.
John was a 1951 graduate of Newark High School, Newark, Ohio; a 1958 graduate of Baldwin-Wallace University (nee College) in 1958, a master's degree from the University of Akron, Ohio, and a Doctor of Education degree from the University of California Coast, Los Angeles CA.
A lifelong athlete, John earned many accolades in his lifetime which included an All-Ohio athlete in 1952, Outstanding Freshman at Baldwin-Wallace University in 1952, Outstanding Athlete 1957-58 and to the Hall of Fame at Baldwin-Wallace University alongside his son Brian Moore being one of only two pairs of father-son athletes named into the BW Hall of Fame. John signed a professional contract with the Cleveland Browns in 1958 and was traded to the Buffalo Bills in 1960.
He devoted most of his professional career to education, at all levels including: middle school science teacher in Medina, OH, Principal at Buckeye Central High School in New Washington, OH, and secondary education professor at Findlay University, Findlay, OH. Notably, he was selected by the State Depart, to coach the Libyan Olympic Track team in 1966. John spent the remainder of his life as an Education Specialist, Columbus, OH, Recruiting Office, Columbus, OH and the Naval Reserve Recruiting Command in New Orleans, L.A. He spawned Stress Tech Management, LLC, in the 1990s prior to retiring in 1993.
John will be missed as a passionate human being who loved his family, his pets, football, took pride in his family history and the accomplishments of those he loved.
Calling hours will be held at the Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main St., Coshocton, OH 43812 on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 from 11:00am - 1:00pm with funeral services beginning at 1:00pm with Pastor Mike Jansen officiating.
