Frank Mathews Jr., 78, of Gahanna, formerly of Coshocton, Ohio passed away at Mt. Carmel East Hospital in Columbus on Saturday November 8, 2014.
Frank was born in Coshocton on January 3, 1936 to the late Frank and Grace (Guilliams) Mathews.
He graduated from Coshocton High School in 1953 and then graduated from the DeVry University. Frank served in Berlin with the U.S. Army and retired from Ohio Bell as an engineer after 38 years of service. He was a proud Eagle Scout and a member of Telephone Pioneers of America. Frank enjoyed hunting and fishing but most of all he loved spending time with his family especially the pride and joy of his life, his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Frank is survived by his wife Lila K. (Kimberley) Mathews who he married June 14, 1959; his children Frank (Ellen) Mathews of West Lafayette, Ohio, Kimberley (Carl) Babcock of West Lafayette, Dina (John) Davis of Mansfield, Ohio and Kelly (Scott) Gregory of Groveport, Ohio; grandchildren Hannah (Corey) Ridenbaugh, Breanne (Brandon) Smith, Kody Babcock, Kyle (Amy) Babcock, Bradley Flaugher, J.R. Davis, Mark Flaugher, Matthew Davis, Allison Flaugher and Andrew Gregory; great grandchildren Logan Ridenbaugh, Olivia Babcock and two more on the way; a brother Dean (Patricia) Mathews of Easton, PA; sisters Patricia (Rodney) Hall and Joan (John) McNeely both of Coshocton; several nieces and nephews; his special canine companion Fritz.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his infant brother Richard and infant sister Maxine.
Friends may call at The Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main St., Coshocton on Wednesday November 12, 2014 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Funeral services for Frank will be at the funeral home on Thursday at 11:00 AM with Pastor Craig Redecker officiating. Interment will follow in South Lawn Cemetery where Coshocton County Veterans Honor Guard will perform military honors.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Boy Scouts of America, Muskingum Valley Council, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
