Life Legacy

H. Maxine Vickers, 84, of Coshocton passed away peacefully at Lafayette Point Nursing Home on Friday June 1, 2012. Maxine was the daughter of the late Clarence A. and Mary L. (Stahl) Thomas of Isleta. She graduated from West Lafayette High School and then from Columbus Business School starting her career at Dayton Air Force Base. She married Don McManus and lived in Guam for several years. Upon returning home, she worked at General Electric in Coshocton as a professional secretary. She retired from A.K. Steel (formerly known as Universal Cyclops) with over 30 years of service. Maxine was the first employee hired at Universal Cyclops as Private Secretary to the Plant Manager. Maxine is survived by her loving husband of more than 25 years, Russell Vickers of Coshocton; her granddaughter Melanie McManus and daughter in law Ginette McManus both of Philadelphia, PA; her sister Cheryl (Don) Stevenson of Dover; nieces Jamie L. Orr of Dover, Chip & Wendi (Thomas) Scholten and Scott & Sheri (Thomas) Pallas of Grand Rapids, MI; sister in law Sandy (Thomas) Slings of Grand Rapids, MI. Maxine is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Don McManus; her son William "Bill" McManus who passed away on January 18, 2012; brother Larry C. Thomas in 2000 and a sister Doris who passed away at birth. Maxine had a positive bubbly personality and enjoyed life. She loved to shop and had a witty-funny sense of humor that was contagious. She adored fashion and was always dressed exquisitely her entire life. Her family fondly remembers the elegant family dinners at the campground made from the truck of her car. The entire family was very active in boating, water skiing and camping both at Seneca and Salt Fork Lakes. She was an avid golfer and loved to fish at Lake Erie with Russ as well as spending time in Punta Gorda during the winter months. It is Maxine's wishes of no services with a cremation to take place. Interment will follow at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to Health Services of Coshocton County/Hospice, P.O. Box 1284, Coshocton, Ohio 43812.
