Jackie "Jack" Earl Pickett

Jackie Earl Pickett passed away peacefully in his home near Warsaw, Ohio, on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at 5:30 PM, surrounded by family. He was so proud to have just celebrated his 80th birthday.

He was preceded in death by his parents J.W. Pickett and Mary Fay Pickett, and by his sisters Linda Watley, Mary Terrell, and Dorothy Moore. He is survived by his wife, Connie Pickett; his sister, Dana Grimes of Adger, Alabama; five children: Todd Pickett of Huntsville, Alabama, Tonya Blackwell of Indianapolis, Indiana, Patrick (Tonya) Gomez of Glendo, Wyoming, Justin Pickett of Carbondale, Illinois, and Jack (Brittany) Pickett of Logan, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Amber Stone, Katie Pickett, Kody Blackwell, Kaleb (Katie) Blackwell, Anna Pickett, Patrick Gomez, Jr., Allysa Gomez, and Kaitlyn Gomez; and three great grand-children: Harper Rene Poulson, Ryleigh Sandra Poulson, and Kinley Blackwell.

Jack was born July 21, 1942, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Mary Lou Farmer. He was the eldest of five children. After graduating high school in 1961, he moved to Miami, Florida for work. He then came home, married, and had two children, Todd (57) and Tonya (55).

Jack’s work in the coal mines took him all across the country. He lived in West Virginia, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Utah, and Illinois, where he landed his position with Peabody Coal in 1973. He worked his way up to assistant superintendent with Peabody and retired early at the age of 52.

In 1982 he married Connie Roberts, his wife of 40 years, with whom he had two sons, Justin (39) and Jack (36). He was a wonderful father who dedicated himself to hard work, family, and his career. He was a die-hard fan of Alabama Crimson Tide football, from the early ‘60s to his passing; he never missed a game if he could help it. Jack was always a cowboy at heart, there was not a horse he couldn’t tame.

Calling hours for Jack will be held at Perry Chapel Baptist Church, 19476 Township Rd 380, Warsaw, OH 43844 on Saturday, August 13, 2022, from 10am to 11am. A Celebration of Life will begin at 11am.
