James Overholt

James Arthur Overholt, age 82, passed away February 21, 2025 with his family by his side in the Hospice Life Care Unit of Pomerene Hospital, Millersburg, Ohio. He was born on October 4, 1942 to the late Ransom and Thelma Overholt, as well as brother Gene Overholt.

Jim graduated with the Class of 1960 from West Lafayette, Ohio, High School. He earned his Bachelors and Master's degrees in Education from Ohio University. His teaching career began in Port Washington, then to Newcomerstown Middle School teacher, then Elementary School administrator, and retired with 35 years of service. He then worked as the EMIS coordinator in the Superintendent's Office for an additional 10 years.

Jim was very active in 4-H and was the Coshocton County Fair Office Computer Administrator for many years and was the Rabbit Representative.

Jim was a member of the West Lafayette United Methodist Church and chaired and served on many Committees, including usher, stained glass committee Chair, sound board operator, computer office help etc. He also served as the Lafayette Township Fiscal Officer for 18 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou (Miller) Overholt of 62 years. He is also survived by his children, Daniel (Elizabeth Escamilla) Overholt of Dayton, Ohio, who followed in his father's footsteps and is a Software Engineer; and daughter, Patricia Lou (Troy) Couts of Gnadenhutten, Ohio, who also followed in his footsteps as an elementary teacher. Grandchildren, Karina Rose Overholt and Larissa Jessica Overholt, Columbus, OH, Daria Lou Renner, Dayton OH, Andrew James Couts, Dennison, OH, Allison Paige Couts, Columbus, OH, sister-in-law, Ruthann Overholt and brother, Larry Overholt, West Lafayette.

Calling hours will be at The Miller Funeral Home on Thursday, February 27, 2025 from 12pm to 1pm. The memorial service will begin at 1pm with Pastor Dan Eggan officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Ohio Hospice or to the West Lafayette United Methodist Church, West Lafayette.
