Janet Elaine Capers Guillory

October 7, 1935 — November 21, 2024

10-7-1935 to 11-21-2024

Leaving this world encircled with love, Janet gained her freedom on November 21, 2024, in West Lafayette, Ohio, and soared into the embrace of eternity. Her heart forever bound to the family she cherished and the legacy of love she leaves behind.

Janet was a woman of unwavering love and quiet strength who found her greatest joy in her family. As a proud mother of eight children, she showed them how to be successful, passionate, and independent.

Her Italian and Polish heritage was very important to her, and she ensured the next generation was well-trained in making pizzelles and snack mix, two of her Christmastime favorites.

Beyond her role as family matriarch, Janet had a profound impact on everyone who knew her. She had a servant’s heart making countless quilts for veterans and taught those around her the value of love, resilience, and faith.

A supporter of women's rights and civil rights, Janet spent many years furthering these causes alongside her husband, Bishop L.J. Guillory. Janet is survived by her husband, L.J.; her children Brenda (Michael) Berry, Carol (Jeffrey) Hardesty, Denise (Thomas) Guthrie, Kevin (Barbara) Jonard, Alex (Monica) Jonard, Lynda (Rich) Jenkins, Noelle (Todd) Merryman, and Jason (Rebecca) Jonard; her grandchildren Keith (Rebecca) Berry, Marissa (Rowdi) Mullett, Theresa (Matt) Drummond, Rebekah Berry (Kevin Pangrace), Joshua Hardesty, Amanda (Keegan) Dwyer, Nathan (Kirstie) Hardesty, Sarah (Kevin) Mahoney, Miles Jonard, Ryan (Bobbie) Jonard, Alex T. Jonard, Nick Jonard, Alexandra Varner, Lauren (Stan) Socha Jr, Duncan (Beth Hayes) Hamilton, Chase (fiancé Matayah Berry) Merryman, Faith Merryman, Emma Merryman, and Jianna Jonard; twenty-three (and counting) great-grandchildren; her brother Ross (Connie) Capers; and several nieces and nephews. She joins in eternal rest her beloved sister Theresa, her brother Gerard, and her parents Ross and Stella Capers. Her family will forever honor and miss this humble unsung heroine who touched so many lives in countless ways. Though she has departed from this world, Janet leaves behind a family rooted in the love she so freely gave, a legacy that will endure for generations to come. Memorial contributions can be made to Sacred Heart Catholic School (39 Burt Ave., Coshocton, Ohio.

In accordance with her wishes, a cremation will take place and the burial of her cremated remains will be at Wagner Cemetery, West Lafayette, at a later date. The Miller Funeral Home & Crematory is serving the family
