Biography





James Manches "Jim" Durben Sr., 75, of Coshocton passed away at Coshocton County Memorial Hospital on Wednesday July 18, 2012. Jim was born in Isleta, Ohio on November 26, 1936 to the late Alfred and Florence (Freetage) Durben.

He was the owner/operator of Durben's Barber Shop in Coshocton for many years, he also would travel to nursing homes and friends homes to cut their hair when ill or in need. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Isleta, Eagles #761, Moose #935 and Sons of the American Legion #65. Jim was very well known in our community as an avid and talented musician, singing, playing guitar and fiddle, his first band was The Buckeye Boys, he played in several other bands, his last being The Country Roundup. As a child at age 14, Jim and his sister Ruth age 26 played for WTNS Radio 6:00 AM-6:30 AM M-F, they were also on the Staff Band at Hillbilly Park, and he was asked to go on tour with The Little Jimmy Dickens Band, he declined needing to stay home and help take care of his mother after his father passed away. Jim was very proud and honored to play with other musicians on tour, that came from Nashville and Wheeling, WV Jamboree. Later in Jim's life, he enjoyed playing in several bands around Coshocton, many benefits, square-dances and traveling around to local nursing homes to play for the residents. Up until recently, he enjoyed jamming with all his talented music friends.

He is survived by his wife Marlene Durben, whom he married August 22, 1981; children Ruth Ann (Owen Conklin) Durben of Florida, Timothy A. (Vicki) Durben of West Lafayette, Kristy Jo (Duane) Landis of Coshocton and Holly (Milan) Cucuz of Coshocton; seven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special companion Buffy Jo. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant daughter Kathy Durben and son James M. Durben Jr.; step sons Rocky Olinger and Mark Olinger.

Per his wishes, a cremation will take place; there will not be any calling hours or services. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Coshocton Co. Animal Shelter, 21755 TR 164, Coshocton, Ohio 43812. The Miller Funeral Home, Coshocton is serving the family.
