Joseph A Henderson

Joseph “Joe” A. Henderson, 75, of Coshocton passed away at his home on Wednesday May 28, 2014.

Joe was born in Coshocton on May 20, 1939 to the late Lawrence W. and Lucy (Smith) Henderson.

He graduated from Coshocton High School in 1957; he then went on to attend Muskingum College.  Joe was employed by JJ Newberry’s as an assistant manager before joining the US Army.  He served with the Hq & Hq Co. 159th Transportation Unit from 1962-1964.  One of his honors during his military service was playing the organ for military funerals.  Joe retired from the Coshocton Post Office in 2000 after more than 35 years of service as a letter carrier.  He belonged to the National Association of Letter Carriers and served as the Secretary Treasurer of the local branch.  He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and Coshocton Elks Lodge.  He also belonged to the former Gingham and Swing’em Western Square Dance for a number of years.  Joe also enjoyed gardening, working in yard, tending to his roses and visiting with close friends.

He is survived by his wife Ruth A. Henderson who he married in 1969; one daughter Joellen (Brian) Bordenkircher of Coshocton; two grandsons Brent and Scott Bordenkircher; two nieces and one nephew.  Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter Jennifer Henderson; two sisters Dorothy Henderson and Martha Fulgium.

Friends may call at The Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main St., Coshocton on Saturday May 31, 2014 from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM where funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM with Pastor Craig Redecker officiating.  Interment will follow in South Lawn Cemetery with Coshocton County Veterans Honor Guard performing military honors.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Coshocton County Animal Shelter, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
