Judy Whitehawk Matchett, 70, of West Lafayette passed away at her home on Friday November 29, 2013. Judy had fought a six year battle with cancer and had undergone five major surgeries during her fight.
She was born in Coshocton on July 21, 1943 to the late Jack B. and Marjorie E. (Bowen) Whitehawk. She graduated from Coshocton High School in 1961 and on August 15, 1970 she married Rodney K. Matchett who survives. Judy began her working career at Gallagher’s Drug Store, American Glove, then on to Pretty Products, Buehlers, was a Dietician at the Coshocton County Home and worked at The Longaberger Company then Kobel’s Garden Center. Judy also graduated from The Ohio State University Wooster campus in 1993 with a double major in Greenhouse Management and Floral Design, she then opened and operated Matchett’s Greenhouse for seventeen years. She was well known for her love of gardening, strong faith in God, being loving and caring to others, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Judy was a member of the First Baptist Church in West Lafayette, Coshocton County Herb Society, Coshocton Canal Quilters, 4H Key Leader Advisor and enjoyed being involved in couples bowling leagues and women’s golf league. She is survived by her loving husband of forty three years Rodney K. Matchett; children Tracy (Randy) Troendly and Ann M. Phillips both of West Lafayette; step children Scott (Cheryl) Matchett and John (Becky) Matchett both of West Lafayette; grandchildren Ryan (Morgan) Thomas of CA, Shelby and Amanda Matchett, Colt and Kacie Phillips, Wade Matchett and Cyanna West all of West Lafayette; brother Jack (Jan) Whitehawk of West Lafayette; several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her brother Lonnie Young.
Friends may call at The Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main St., Coshocton on Wednesday December 4, 2013 from 2:00 PM-4:00 PM and 7:00 PM-9:00 PM and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of West Lafayette, 688 E. Main St., West Lafayette on Thursday at 11:00 AM with Pastor David Kraft officiating. Interment will follow in Fairfield Cemetery, West Lafayette. Memorial contributions may be directed to Health Services of Coshocton County “Hospice”, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
