CW4 Mary L. Hootman, 79, of Coshocton, Ohio passed away at Sycamore Run Nursing Home in Millersburg, Ohio on Tuesday August 26, 2014.
Mary was born near Newcomerstown, Ohio on December 15, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Mary (Emler) Hughes.
A 1951 graduate of Newcomerstown High School, she earned a Bachelor’s degree from the Univeristy of Nebraska at Omaha and a Master’s Degree from Western Kentucky University. She was also a graduate of numerous military schools.
She was a highly decorated Army Officer of 30 years of service who had served during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. Her awards include the Bronze Star Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Army Commendation Medal and numerous other awards and decorations.
Mary was a member of numerous veterans and professional organizations and past officer of American Legion Post 65, past officer of AMVETS Post 36 and Past Commander of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 74. She also served as a member of Coshocton County Veterans Service Commission and participated in 109 military funerals with the Honor Guard.
Friends may call at The Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main St., Coshocton, Ohio on Friday August 29, 2014 from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM where funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM with Lloyd Tenney officiating. Interment will follow in South Lawn Cemetery with Coshocton County Veterans Honor Guard performing military honors.
