Mary Janice Kobel, age 90, of Coshocton passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Altercare of Coshocton. She was born on June 10, 1933 in New Martinsville, WV to the late William Samuel and Eleanor Merle (Scrote) MacKenzie. She was a 1951 graduate of Coshocton High School and went on to The Ohio State University where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy. She worked in the medical field for years and retired from Coshocton Behavioral Health. She also worked as an Administrative Secretary at Torah Academy all while being a homemaker for her family. On January 21, 1956, she married Donald Kobel, who passed away in 1998. Mary enjoyed reading memoirs and autobiographies and classical music. She loved tending to her flower gardens and watching the birds. Mary was a longtime member of the Coshocton Presbyterian Church.
Mary is survived by her children, Kathy (Bryan) Stull of Sugargrove, Bill (Jo) Kobel of Coshocton and John (Cindy) Kobel of Coshocton; grandchildren, Donald (Emily) Smith, Elizabeth (Kyle) Ridenbaugh, Brett Kobel, Alicia (Roger) Schultheis, Stephanie (Darrin) Reeb, Brooke Kobel, Quintin Kobel and Noah Kobel; great-grandchildren, Logan and Liam Smith, Garrett and Brice Hogue, and Aidan Ridenbaugh, Aden and Rohan Schultheis, Foster and Stella Reeb.
Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her sister, Mollie Rechin and Mother and Father-in-law, Miriam and Harvey Kobel.
Calling hours will be at the Coshocton Presbyterian Church on Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 11am to 12pm. A funeral service will begin in the Sanctuary at 12pm with Charles Snyder officiating.
