Mary Thomas

October 14, 1940 — March 4, 2025

Mary Jane Thomas, aged 84, passed away on March 4, 2025, at home with her loved ones. Born on October 14, 1940, in Coshocton to the late, Ambrose and Mary (Marie) Scott Cognion. She graduated from Sacred Heart School in Coshocton in 1959. After school, she worked for 31 years at Pretty Products. After her retirement, she babysat children, sometimes up to 16, earning her the name "Grandma Mary." In 1962, she married Lewis D. Thomas, who passed away in 2021.

Survived by her sons, Eric (Wendy) Thomas, Trent Thomas, and daughter Trista (Rick) Ratzel, she has grandchildren Amy (Billy) Vorys, Loren Lindig, Ann (Tyler) Wyant, Tania (Derek) Schonauer, Dawn (Colt) Landis. Great-grandchildren Kinslee & Callan Schonauer, Oaklee and Hudson Landis, Vivian Wyant and baby boy Wyant on the way as well as her siblings, Francis Cognion, Anthony Clarence Cognion and Loretta Moore. A special mention to her other caregiver Lori Holmes.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Bart Thomas, granddaughter Kayla Thomas, brothers James and Joe Cognion and sisters Bertha and Rosetta.

Calling hours will be at The Miller Funeral Home on Monday, March 10, 2025 from 11am to 1pm. The funeral will begin on Monday at 1pm. Burial will follow at Coshocton County Memory Gardens.
