Richard T. Griffith, 84, of West Lafayette, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Monday March 3, 2014 at Southeastern Ohio Medical Center in Cambridge while holding his wife of 63 years hand, Edith I. (Stahl) Griffith.
Richard was born in Cambridge, Ohio on January 1, 1930 to the late Joseph and Althea (Mackey) Griffith Sr.. He had worked at his father’s coal mine, Griffith Coal Mine, Goshen Brickyard, Moore Enameling, Penn Michigan and retired from Stonecreek Brickyard. Richard was also a member of Orange United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife Edith I. Griffith who he married December 16, 1950; two children Carl (Lois) Griffith of Port Washington and Janet (Daniel) Hahn of West Lafayette; brothers and sisters Jane (Sam) Swinderman of Newcomerstown, James Griffith of West Lafayette and William (Donna) Griffith of West Lafayette; grandchildren Matthew (Suzanne) Hahn of IN, Travis (Myndee) Hahn of Fresno, Hayley (Nathanael) Armstrong of West Lafayette and Hillary Harris of Zanesville; great grandchildren Aaron, Braedyn, Wyatt and Nataley Armstrong all of West Lafayette, Kiley and Taylor Hahn of Fresno, Benjamin Hahn of IN, Keondre, Rashaun and Kayanna Harris all of Zanesville; sisters and brothers in law Florence Olinger of West Lafayette, Kenneth Stahl of Newcomerstown, Ruth Griffith of Sebring and Marjorie Griffith of Coshocton; several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers Edwin (Floetta) Griffith, Henry Griffith, Joseph Griffith Jr. and Emmett (Irene) Griffith; sisters Dorothy (Earl) Dickerson, Betty (Wayne) Bradford and an infant sister Eleanor; brothers and sisters in law Thelma (Freetage) Griffith, Gloria (Masters) Stahl, Robert Douglass, Rufus Olinger, Jacob Stahl, Harry Stahl and Chester (Wilma Young) Stahl.
Friends may call at The Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main St., Coshocton on Saturday March 8, 2014 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM where funeral services will begin at 12:00 PM noon with Pastor John Armstrong and Pastor Jim Reed officiating. Interment will follow in Fairfield Cemetery, West Lafayette.
