His friends called him Bob, his kids called him Bear. He liked to hibernate until late morning when life with seven children, a marriage and a dental practice allowed it. Bear was a humble man. He was like the rest of us, imperfect, yet amazing in his love for family, jovial when telling stories about his children, delightful with an endless instinct to laugh, always excited by a classic old car, ethical in his work, fortunate in his knowledge of science, and beyond all else he loved people and helping those less fortunate whenever he could. His ability to find goodness in others brought richness to his life and those around him.
Robert E. Arnold, DMD passed away on February 22, 2018 at the age of 89 in the Lafayette Point Care Center due to complications of Alzheimer’s disease. Bear was born in Zanesville, Ohio on January 23, 1929. He met his wife, Barbara T. Wardian (a.k.a. Mickey) in his hometown of Zanesville and they married on September 4, 1954 before settling in West Lafayette, Ohio. Bob is survived by Mickey, their seven children – Robert E. Arnold Jr., Kenneth Allen, David Joseph, Barbara Ann, Angela Marie, Margaret Mary and William Thomas – along with twelve grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and two brothers – Lawrence and Thomas Arnold.
A private family service will be held to share memories and pay respect. Thank you to all of his patients and those who loved him for he loved all of you. We will miss you dearly Bear.
