Robert “Pacer” Smith, 67, of Plainfield went to be with Jesus with his family members by his side and holding his hand on Tuesday April 5, 2016. He was weary from a fifteen month battle with brain cancer.
He was born in Millersburg, Ohio on October 11, 1948 to the late Richard and Jane (Albery) Smith. He was a 1966 graduate of River View High School where he played baseball and football. Pacer worked for Steel Ceilings for twenty six years and Annin Flag Company before retiring. He loved the Cleveland Indians and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Pacer also liked listening to 60’s and 70’s music especially the Eagles and Chicago. He also enjoyed spending time working in his yard and garden, and spent many hours playing Sudoku puzzles.
Pacer is survived by his loving wife Sharon (Hardesty) Smith whom he married on October 25, 1986; a son Rob (Donna Barbieri) Smith of Boston, MA; brothers Tom (Linda) Smith of Charlotte, NC and Brent (Sue) Smith of Columbus, OH; sisters Sherilyn (Terry) Wisenburg of Coshocton and Lorna (Bob) Holehouse of Westerville, OH; brothers in law Mike (Cheryl) Hardesty of Coshocton, Jeff (Carol) Hardesty of Plainfield and John (Lynn) Hardesty of West Lafayette; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at The Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main St., Coshocton on Sunday April 10, 2016 from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Funeral services for Pacer will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 11:00 AM with Pastor Starkey Lawrence officiating. Interment will follow in Plainfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the James Cancer Hospital and/or Health Services of Coshocton County “Hospice”, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
