Rodney D. Whiteus

Rodney D. Whiteus, passed away peacefully of natural causes on September 2, 2024, at the age of 83, in his home in Coshocton.  Rodney's life was characterized by his jovial spirit, his unwavering friendliness, and his appetite for adventure, which brought joy and laughter to all who knew him.

Born on October 22, 1940, in Coshocton, Rodney was a lifelong resident of the County he loved. He graduated from Conesville High School in the class of 1958, where he formed many lifelong friendships and laid the foundations for a life of hard work and dedication. Rodney's career spanned many years at Ansel Edmont, and he retired from Cleveland Cliffs where he was respected by his colleagues for his strong work ethic and amiable nature.

Rodney's life was rich with love and family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jeri L. (Duncan) Whiteus whom he married February 12, 1994, and their children: Becky (Mark) Underwood of Coshocton, Michael (Tammy) Whiteus of Dresden, Matthew (Lindy) Blair of New Concord, and John (Fhronda) Blair of West Lafayette. His legacy continues through his ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, who will miss his playful teasing and the warm embrace of his hugs. Rodney's sisters, Shirley Pepper, Joyce Longaberger, Linda (Bill) Robinson, Kay Jones, Darlene Helbling, Ann Morgan, Nancy (Randy) March, and his brother Charley (Debby) Whiteus, will cherish the memories of their brother's humor and companionship, and is fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents Charles E. and Clesson I. (Mapel) Whiteus and his brother, Seth Whiteus.

An outdoorsman at heart, Rodney's passion for hunting and fishing was only matched by his love for watching sports and spending time outside, enjoying the beauty of nature. His friends and family will recall the countless stories of his adventures and the twinkle in his eye as he recounted each tale with his characteristic wit.

As we say goodbye to Rodney D. Whiteus, we celebrate a man who lived fully, loved generously, and left a lasting impression on the hearts of those he touched. He was a true friend, a loving husband, a cherished father, a doting grandfather, and a great-grandfather, and a loyal brother. His laughter and love will echo through the generations, and his spirit will forever be a guiding light for those he leaves behind.

Rodney's life was a testament to the simple pleasures that bring us the greatest joy—family, nature, and a good laugh. As we reflect on his journey, we are reminded to embrace each day with the same zest and kindness that Rodney exemplified throughout his life. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire us all.

Per Rodney’s wishes, a cremation will take place with The Miller Funeral Home & Crematory in Coshocton, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
