Russell "Jay" Brickles

April 22, 1960 — March 11, 2016

Russell “Jay” Brickles, 55, of West Lafayette passed away Friday March 11, 2016 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus from complications following a heart attack.  Jay was born in Zanesville on April 22, 1960 to Robert Brickles and Betty (Severance) Cox.

Jay was a 1979 graduate of Coshocton High School.  It was there that he met his junior high sweetheart, Diana.  Jay and Diana began dating while she was an 8th grader and he was a 7th grader.  It was true love from that moment on.  They dated for 5 years until Diana’s graduation in 1978.  Her only wish was to marry the love of her life and begin a family.  They married November 18, 1978.  Soon after that her dream continued; their family began.  Jay and Diana were blessed with three sons, Jayson Russell, Jarrod Lee, and Jesse Robert Brickles.  Their lives were perfect.

Jay loved trucks.  It was in his blood.  That is where his tremendous work ethic and busted knuckles came from.  The time in the garage gave him so much joy.  Jay always was there to lend a hand to numerous truckers around the community and that is how he earned a strong reputation as a hardworking man.  His father, Robert, started the love, passion, and desire for him to become the proud owner and operator of Brickles Trucking.  His three sons and himself have logged millions of miles together.  Nothing gave Jay a greater sense of pride than driving with his most precious gifts, his sons.  Before owning his own business, Jay worked at several places including; Saunders Leasing, Penske Truck, Ryder Trucking, and Ohio Central Railroad. For those of you that know Jay, you know he had a passion of restoring old cars and painting.  There have been countless cars and trucks that he has restored throughout his life, some that have won several awards, including his own prize possession his, 1972 GTO that won 3rd at Nationals.  When Jay wasn’t working, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson Heritage Soft tail and watching his grandchildren play sports.

In addition to his wife, Diana (Denning) Brickles, Jay will be truly missed by his three sons Jayson (Darcy) Brickles, Jarrod (Christina) Brickles, and Jesse (Natasha) Brickles; “Paw Paw Jay” will be greatly missed by his most precious grandchildren, Brayden, Bryson, and Brody Brickles, Teagan and Briah Brickles, and a soon to be grandchild, Kylar, Akeria, and Jagger Brickles; and his most beloved and faithful fur babies Nellie May and Nicki Jay.  He also leaves behind his loving mother-in-law and father-in-law Nellie and Raymond “Duke” Walters, his siblings Jeff (Jackie) Brickles, Suzie (Leroy) Miller, Lori Lucas, and Jody (Connie) Brickles; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and precious friends.

He is preceded in death by his father Robert Brickles; father-in-law Ronald Denning; brother-in-law Kevin Denning; grandparents Dannie and Flossie Brickles and Frank and Florence Severance.

Per Jay’s request there will be no calling hours and a cremation will take place.  Jay’s wish is for everyone that he leaves behind is to remember something special about him.
