Shirley Baumer

Shirley Jean Baumer, 89, of Coshocton, went to be with her Savior on Friday, July 5, 2024 at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia. She was born in New Philadelphia on February 23, 1935 to the late Frank and Margaret (McHale) Geltz. On April 28, 1953, she married Charles G. Baumer, who survives.

Receiving God’s free gift of salvation more than fifty years ago, she attended Victory Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for several years.

She was a full-time homemaker, wife, and mother of five children for most of her life and considered that to be her most important job.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 71 years, Charles G. Baumer; children Chuck (Connie) Baumer and Beth (Wayne) Cormack both of Coshocton, Jeff (Anita) Baumer of Marietta, OH, and Greg (Sharon) Baumer of Newark, OH; and surviving son-in-law Matt Elvin Sr,. of Uhrichsville.  Her surviving grandchildren include, Matthew, Mark, and Michael Elvin, Cara Renner, Crista Berry, Roger Grantham, Michael Cormack, Candace Cormack, Rachel Dillon, Kelly Thompson, Lisa Baumer, and Nick Baumer; 13 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren complete the family.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Margaret (Baumer) Elvin; daughter-in-law Carla Baumer; grandson, Chad Baumer; and siblings Mildred Mercer, James Cox, and Frank Geltz.

Friends may call at the Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main Street, Coshocton, OH 43812 on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 from 11:00am – 12:00pm with funeral services beginning at 12:00pm with her son, Pastor Jeff Baumer, and her pastor, Pastor Ralph Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Dover Burial Park, Dover, OH, with her grandson, Army Chaplain Dr. Michael Cormack officiating.

The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Victory Baptist Church or Community Hospice; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
