Thomas “Tom” Apple, 76, of West Lafayette passed away Monday, December 4, 2023, at his home. He was born in Coshocton, Ohio, at the Coshocton City Hospital on January 23, 1947, to the late Paul L. and Ruth E. (Ashbaker) Apple.
Tom is a 1965 graduate of Ridgewood High School. After beginning studies at Ashland College, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1967. He spent one year of his enlistment at Bien Hoa Air Base in Vietnam, where he received a plaque for outstanding service. Before his enlistment ended in 1971, he was promoted to Staff Sergeant. Afterward, he returned to Ashland College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1972. He retired from General Electric in Coshocton after 28 years of employment.
He was very active in the Coshocton Honor Guard and the Newcomerstown Honor Guard, collectively participating in more than 1,000 military funerals. He was also involved in Habitat for Humanity, West Lafayette Lions Club, Vietnam Veterans of America, Isleta United Methodist Church, and the American Red Cross blood donation program, to which he donated more than 14 gallons of blood.
Tom is survived by his children the Reverend Canon Jason Apple of Sieci, Italy; Benjamin Apple of Newton Falls; Christine Apple of New Philadelphia; Rebecca (Douglas) Smith of Worthington; and Katherine (Benjamin) Miller of Taneytown, Maryland; 14 grandchildren; one great grandchild; and brothers Stephen Apple of Wooster and Dennis (Kim) Apple of New Philadelphia.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his brother Dave Apple.
Friends may call at the Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main Street, Coshocton, Ohio, 43812 on Monday, December 11, 2023, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm with funeral services beginning at 1:00 pm with Pastor Dan Eggan officiating. Burial will follow at Fairfield Cemetery, where the Coshocton County Veterans Council and the Newcomerstown Honor Guard will perform military honors. Memorial contributions can be directed towards the Coshocton County Veterans Council, Newcomerstown Honor Guard, or the Isleta United Methodist Church; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
