Willis Dean Knoff, 87, of Coshocton, known affectionately as Dean, passed away peacefully at Genesis Hospital on October 30, 2023. Born in Coshocton, on April 18, 1936, to the late Raymond and Irene (Barnes) Knoff, Dean lived a fulfilling and impactful life that touched many.
Dean was a proud graduate of Coshocton High School, class of 1954. After graduation, he served his community in the Ohio National Guard, demonstrating his commitment to service from an early age. He later embarked on a successful career at Shaw Barton in Coshocton, where he dedicated 25 years before his well-deserved retirement.
Dean was a life member of the Coshocton Elks Lodge and Coshocton Eagles Lodge, where he made lifelong friends and contributed to the community. Known for his analytical mind, Dean was a problem solver, always ready to lend a hand and share his wisdom. His kind heart and handy skills were a blessing to those around him.
Dean was a man of many interests. He was an avid golfer and had a passion for antique cars, often found working on his collection or scouting for new additions. He was a well-known Coshocton history buff, and his love for local antiques was a testament to his deep-rooted connection to his hometown. Dean was also a devoted fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, cheering them on with unwavering loyalty.
Dean's love for the outdoors was evident in his enjoyment of spending time in nature and his winters spent in Florida. He had a special talent for woodworking and wood refinishing, creating beautiful pieces that will be treasured by his family and friends.
Dean is survived by his loving wife whom he married June 2, 1979, Tina Knoff; his son, Douglas Knoff of Coshocton; his daughter, Darlene Chalk of Richland, MS; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews; his sister, Linda Lewis of Coshocton; his sister-in-law, Karen (Jeff) Rahmel of Napoleon, OH; and his brother-in-law, Jack Lorenz of Defiance, OH.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Knoff Smith; his sister, Patricia (William) Knoff Benning; his brother, Raymond Curtis Knoff; his son-in-law, Ray Chalk; and his sisters-in-law, Mary Lorenz and Gretchen Duerk.
Dean's life was a testament to his love for his family, his community, and his passions. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his memory will continue to inspire and guide his loved ones. Dean's life was a journey of dedication, love, and kindness, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Friends may call at The Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main St. Coshocton on Monday, November 6, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM where memorial services for Dean will begin at 1:00 PM with Pastor Bryan Kittner officiating.
The memorial service will be live streamed on this webpage for those unable to attend in person.
Interment will follow in South Lawn Cemetery.
