William Bower

William L. “Bill” Bower, 81, of West Lafayette went to the waiting arms of our Lord Jesus Christ on Friday May 1st, 2020. He was born on September 22, 1938 in Vandergrift, PA to the late Florence and Jay Bower.

Bill graduated from Moon Township High School in 1958 and went straight into the United States Navy where he served as an Electronic Technician with the Airdales. After his Navy days he spent time in St. Louis, MO with the McDonald Douglass Aerospace Company and worked on the Gemini Space Capsule Program. Bill and Amy moved to Ohio in 1973 where he worked for the Abolite branch of Jones Metal in West Lafayette for over 20 years. He owned and operated an Alarm company from 1985-2015. Bill spent over a year with the Business Advisory Committee of the Coshocton Joint Vocational School. He was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of Newcomerstown and he was a longtime member of the Christ United Methodist Church of Newcomerstown. He was also a devoted member of the Newcomerstown Rotary, achieving the status of a Paul Harris Fellow. Bill was truly an amazing man, he liked to be around people and loved the outdoors whether he was camping, fly-fishing, or mowing.

Bill is survived by his wife Amy Bower, the love of his life, whom he married on June 22, 1968. He was a proud father of two sons Jon (Cristy) Bower of West Lafayette and Nathan (Alicia) Bower of Woodinville, WA. Bill delighted in the love of his grandchildren Ryan and Ian of WA and Kaya of West Lafayette. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law Terry Nestor and Dr. Robert Karl jr.; sisters-in-law Carrol (William) Killip and Louise Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his sister Sandra Lee Nestor.

Per Bill’s wishes a cremation will take place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to the Christ United Methodist Church, 648 Oak Street, Newcomerstown, OH 43832.
