William (Bill) J. Tomey, age 89, of Coshocton passed peacefully at the home of his daughter. He was born December 11, 1933 in New Philadelphia, PA to the late David and Louise (Galat) Tomey.
On June 18, 1960 he married Betty Drum, a girl he loved at first sight and told his friend that’s the girl he was going to marry. Bill was an agitator, jokester, loved to tease, and didn’t know a stranger, striking up conversation with anyone and everyone. He served in the U.S. Airforce from 1957 to 1961 and was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and the Air Force Longevity Service Award. He specialized in and served as a weather observer. He retired from Ansell-Edmont after 25 years of service.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his son, Edward Tomey; his brother David Tomey; sister Louise Spotts; brother in laws Elmer Spotts and Mel Buchan, and sister in law, Helen Tomey. He is survived by his two girls, Marie (Bruce) Harrison and Jinni (Paul) Bowman; grandchildren Ian, Devon (Alexa), Tristyn (Nina), and Ethan Tomey; Ashley (Jake) Skierkowski; Jill (Phil) Harrison Peters; Michael (Autumn) Bowman, and Claire Bowman; step-grandchildren, Chris (Heather) Harrison and Andy (Alex) Harrison; great grandchildren Olivia Tomey, Anna Skierkowski, Sophie and Burkley Bowman; step great grandchildren, Penny and Anna Harrison; sister, Charlotte Buchan; brother, Joseph (Butchie) Tomey, and sister in law Arlene Tomey.
Bill also leaves behind a special friend, Don Murray, who faithfully and frequently called, honorary daughter, Doreen Lambert, and a granddaughter by choice and his daily companion Autumn Dickerson.
Following cremation, a graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 19th, 12:00 p.m at Canal Lewisville cemetery where his remains will be buried with his loving wife and son. The Coshocton Veterans Council will be performing military honors. Immediately following the service, Bill’s family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life luncheon at the Three Rivers Fire Station, 24199 CR 621, Coshocton. Please be casual.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to the Coshocton County Animal Shelter, 21755 TR 164, Coshocton, OH 43812.
